The Social Investment Fund is one of the Government’s key partners in the fight against poverty. Since its establishment, SIF has implemented over 518 projects worth some $73.4 million dollars in the areas of health, water and sanitation, education, social services, economic infrastructure and organizational strengthening. Since February 2008, SIF has implemented 121 major projects countrywide worth $26.4 million dollars benefitting over 75,000 Belizeans. As Minister of Economic Development with the responsibility for SIF, it gives me great pleasure to introduce to you an organization with such an impressive record.
The Government of Belize’s unwavering commitment to improve the lives of the poor, with the assistance of our international partners in development, is already manifesting itself through numerous projects implemented all over Belize. But our fight against poverty is far from over. A lot still remains to be done. For this reason, the Government remains resolute in its work to intensify and effectively co-ordinate all efforts aimed at addressing the basic needs of Belize under its National Poverty Alleviation Strategy.
I take great pleasure in inviting you to the SIF website. Here you will find a wealth of information. My greatest hope is that you find this website useful, whether you are a student, a contractor or someone naturally captivated by the work of such a prestigious organization, whose role in breaking the cycle of poverty in Belize is incalculable.
Yours sincerely
Hon Erwin R. Contreras,
Minister of Economic Development,
Commerce, Industry and Consumer Protection
